(meet the midwife
Noel Fernandez, LM, CPM
Hi there! If you are here you are likely expecting a new babe, or
thinking about growing your family...this is a sweet, exciting,
sacred time and I am honored you are taking a moment to "meet"
Who I am: Mama to the loveliest humans
I know, home birth midwife , Doula, hiker, novice gardener, kayaker, book nerd,
aspiring herbalist, farmer market shopper, lake lover...
Why birth work?: I came to birth work through my own pregnancies and early parenting years. The midwives that cared for me opened my eyes and heart to new and gentler ways of being with myself, my babies, and the world. Midwifery care was the first time I experienced healthcare in a way that felt empowering and honoring of who I was as a human, my heart and spirit as well as my body. I felt a deep pull to this work and knew in my bones I was meant to do it. I love getting to walk alongside families as they grow and expand in so many ways!
Training: I feel I have taken the best parts of formal education and the traditional apprenticeship model to get to where I am today as a WI Licensed, Certified Professional Midwife. I spent years completing nationally recognized classes and workshops alongside my apprenticeships, learning at the sides of 5 midwives across 4 states! I feel so incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to work in various settings across the region which has set me up to be able to walk into a large city hospital room or an Amish family's home and feel at ease, to be able to adapt to the desires and needs of each family, no matter the setting. The families, birthing people, and babies are where the deep wisdom has been found. I am forever humbled by the deep knowing each person carries, and to be invited to be witness to each individual's journey has been, and will always be a humbling honor, unlike any other. I am always seeking deeper wisdom through continuing my education by attending workshops and conferences.
My philosophy: It is quite simple, really...I strongly believe that each family, each person, knows what is best for them and that we all make the best decisions for ourselves when we feel fully informed and supported. So that's what I aim to do...inform folks of all the possible options, the research behind those choices, and then respectfully follow their lead and support them in their journey towards a safe and healthy birth.
Education, safety, love, and support -- so powerful in their simplicity -- can change the way we walk through this world, and I commit to always work and live with those values at the forefront.

I have been passionate about birth work since the birth of my oldest 15 years ago. I have 3 amazing kiddos, all so unique and full of personality. After working as an in-home caregiver for many years, I have been working as a Birth Doula and am part of the Madison Doula Collective. In addition to attending births, I encapsulate placentas and host a local inclusive parenting baby group. I attend South West Technical College’s Midwifery program with 60 other student midwives, the only program in the nation offered at a technical school.
When I am not submerged in birth work, I am in the kitchen or on the soccer field. I coach, sit on the local soccer club board, and still play! You can also find me on my partner’s farm and hosting a local podcast.
I’m thrilled to be working alongside Noel, witnessing families expand, and learning the art of midwifery.
